NBA encourages fans to vote during election

To encourage supporters, players, and staff to cast their votes on Tuesday, Nov. 8, the NBA stated on Monday that there will be no games played on that day.

Instead, all 30 teams will play the night before the election as part of what the league is dubbing a “civic engagement night.”

The NBA Communications team tweeted, “The scheduling choice arose out of the NBA family’s goal on supporting nonpartisan civic involvement and encouraging fans to make a plan to vote during midterm elections.

This November, there will be elections for 435 House seats, more than 30 Senate seats, and gubernatorial contests.

The league is urging clubs to let their fan groups know about election-related details like registration deadlines in the weeks before November 8th.

The NBA and the players’ union agreed to turn league-controlled venues into voting locations in 2020.

They also formed a partnership for social justice. The Los Angeles Dodgers and NBA star LeBron James also worked together to turn Dodger Stadium into a voting location for the presidential election.

The Dodgers became the first club in Major League Baseball to open voting at their stadium.

The NBA has 1,173 workers as of July, according to Zippia.com, a website with career-related information.

At 3 p.m. on Wednesday, the whole 2022-2023 NBA schedule will be made public.
