The Supreme Court has ruled that it will not get involved in a dispute in which Dominion Voting Systems accused MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell of defamation for making a false claim that the business will rig the 2020 presidential election against former President Donald Trump.
The high court rejected the case on Monday along with a number of others, as is customary. The top court resumes hearing arguments on Monday following a summer recess.
Dominion also charged Trump friends Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani for defamation for making false claims that the election was “stolen” in the lawsuit that Lindell is involved in. The Dominion, located in Denver, Colorado, is suing the group for $1.3 billion in losses.
In August of last year, a judge in a lower court decided against dismissing the lawsuit and stated it might proceed. A federal appeals court ruled that Lindell’s appeal of that decision was untimely. The Supreme Court chose not to address that matter.
In press conferences, election rallies, on social media, and on television, Powell, Giuliani, two attorneys who filed election challenges on behalf of Trump, and Lindell, one of Trump’s most outspoken supporters, made a number of unsubstantiated assertions about the voting equipment manufacturer.
Numerous election authorities nationwide, including Trump’s attorney general, William Barr, have said that there was no major election fraud. Republican governors in Arizona and Georgia, two vital states that would have made or broken Biden’s win, likewise swore to the fairness of their states’ elections. In 28 states, Dominion machines tallied the votes.
A Minnesota court rejected Lindell’s request to have a related defamation action against it by Smartmatic, a different manufacturer of voting machines, dismissed in September. During the 2020 election, only Los Angeles County saw the usage of Smartmatic’s equipment. Minnesota is the home of MyPillow.
