Anna Cardwell was a 20-year-old college student fatally shot in her house in Wetumpka, Alabama, in 2012.
Her mother had left to run some errands the morning after Valentine’s Day and upon returning an hour later, discovered Anna’s dead body in the kitchen.
Anna had been shot thrice and then fatally shot in the back of her head.
There were bloody footprints, handprints, and drag marks inside the house, suggesting a fight between Anna and her killer.
However, there was no sign of forced entry, but the assailant used Anna’s car to escape the crime scene.
After an investigation, Josh Caspari, Anna’s friend, was arrested for her murder. Anna’s family reported that Josh was unhappy with their relationship and had even asked her friend to end things with him.
Josh’s mother, however, told the police that Anna had picked him up from a Winn Dixie car parking lot that morning, the same place where Anna’s abandoned car was found.
Later, Josh’s roommate, Cody Abernathy, admitted to driving him to a wooded area near Anna’s house, his alleged lookout spot the same morning.
During an extensive search of Caspari’s place, investigators found 59 incriminating items taken as evidence, including bloody clothes, an identical weapon to the one used in the murder, illegal steroids, and $20,000 in cash.
Josh later confessed to the murder and admitted that he accidentally shot Anna during an argument over his failed relationship with Anna’s friend.
He pleaded guilty to involvement in the Anna Cardwell murder case in October 2013 and received life in jail without the possibility of parole.

According to the reports, Anna was in her second year of college in early 2012 and was residing at her family home.
She spent Valentine’s Day with her boyfriend, and the situation seemed normal until her mother found her dead body the next morning.
Anna’s mother stated that Josh deserves to spend the rest of his life in jail for what he did to their family.
