Mr. Staffan de Mistura meets with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita

Today, June 5, 2022, in Rabat, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Moroccan Sahara, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita.

The discussions were held with Mr. Omar Hilale, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the UN, present.

On this occasion, the Moroccan delegation reaffirmed Morocco’s steadfast support for a political solution that is solely based on the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative and operates within the parameters of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty, as reiterated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in his speech at the 46th Anniversary of the Green March on November 6, 2021.

In accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2602, which calls for a “realistic, pragmatic, sustainable, and compromise-based” political solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, the delegation also reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to the political process of the round tables at this time.
