Milwaukee chosen as 2024 Republican National Committee venue

The official selection of the party’s presidential nominee will take place during the national convention in Milwaukee in 2024, the Republican National Committee stated on Friday.

Republican National Committee head Ronna McDaniel tweeted, “The RNC has unanimously chosen Milwaukee as the host city for the 2024 Republican National Convention. We are excited to see Milwaukee shine in the spotlight in 2024 since it is a city of the highest caliber.

Given Nashville’s inability to ratify a resolution for hosting the convention, Milwaukee, in the swing state of Wisconsin, was the overwhelming choice to host the occasion. The decision to hold the event in Milwaukee, which was chosen to host the 2020 Democratic convention that had to be moved online because to the COVID-19 outbreak, had broad support from both political parties.

In order to convince Republicans that it was ready to host in 2024, the city highlighted its preparations for that convention. The RNC’s site selection committee chose Milwaukee in July.

On the last day of its summer meeting in Chicago, the Republican National Committee made its choice public.

Nashville’s proposal ran into difficulties after Mayor John Cooper and others voiced worries about safety, the financial cost of having to close the busy downtown to all but convention activities, and the effects of using up city resources for the event.

A draft deal for hosting the convention was rejected by the Nashville Common Council on Tuesday, seemingly ending the city’s chances.

A parallel scenario played out in Milwaukee, where Democratic stronghold leaders teamed up with influential Republicans, including former RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, to make the case for the city to host the convention. The chairman of the Wisconsin GOP state committee and a former White House chief of staff for the late President Donald Trump, Reince Priebus, heads the convention’s local organizing committee.

While President Joe Biden defeated Trump by almost the same percentage in 2020, Trump narrowly won Wisconsin in 2016.

2024’s election could be decided by Wisconsin, while Tennessee hasn’t supported a Democrat since 1996. However, picking Milwaukee host the convention fits well with recent Republican decisions. Republicans have held their nomination convention in the swing states of North Carolina, Ohio, and Florida for the past 20 years.
