Migrants illegally crossing southern border hits 1 million in less than 4 months

According to multiple Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sources, the number of migrants who have been caught illegally crossing the southern border has reached one million in less than four months into the fiscal year. This statistic is expected to break records if it continues at this pace.

The CBP sources noted that while February’s numbers seem to be down and could be fewer than the 166,000 migrant encounters from February 2022, the numbers could rise again in the spring.

The Biden administration has been criticized for its inaction on the issue, and the satisfaction rate of Americans with the level of immigration into the U.S. has fallen six percent in a year, dropping to 28 percent, the lowest number in over a decade.

Among the 230,000 migrants encountered this year, 87.8 percent were single adults, and only 328,454 were expelled under Title 42. Of the 1 million encounters, 328,454 were “gotaways,” illegal immigrants who evaded Border Patrol agents but were detected on other forms of surveillance.

The CBP’s current approach is that transgender women can only be held in the women’s estate if a risk assessment deems it safe to hold them there.

However, the English and Welsh governments have announced that transgender inmates who pose a threat to other prisoners will be prohibited from women’s prisons.

This rule applies to transgender women who have committed violent or sexual crimes or transgender women with male genitals. The measure would apply regardless of whether prisoners had a gender recognition certificate, with exemptions only in the most exceptional cases needing to be signed off by ministers.

While more Americans are expressing their dissatisfaction with the level of immigration into the U.S., the Republican party has already begun examining how to address the border crisis, and the Biden administration has called it a bipartisan issue.

However, the new rule announced by the administration would automatically make illegal immigrants who passed through another country without claiming asylum ineligible for asylum in the U.S.
