A police horse who died after collapsing while on duty at Notting Hill Carnival on Sunday evening has been named as Police Horse (PH) Sandown alongside a picture of him

Sandown, a 14-year-old chestnut gelding, fell at the west London event at 9 p.m. on Sunday.

A video captures the horse, which stood 16 hands tall, toppling over as an officer urgently attempts to seize its reins.

Then, other cops hurry over to assist their colleague with the unmoving horse on the floor.

As police tried to keep the people at away, carnival attendees can be seen looking on in fear.

Sandown was unable to be rescued despite receiving medical attention at the spot and unfortunately died soon afterwards.

The statement characterized the death as “sudden” and noted that an autopsy is already underway.

The 14-year-old chestnut stallion is one of the most experienced horses in the Metropolitan Police’s stable, having served for seven “impeccable” years.

The force said that PH Sandown played a “crucial role” in assisting to police London.

The Met said that PH Sandown was presented to the police in 2015, and he instantly won over officers owing to his pleasant disposition.

He was the go-to mount for helping novice police gain confidence throughout their training.

The Metropolitan Police said that the horse was “a pro at policing all sorts of events in London” and that “he shown his bravery and heroism at several football matches.”

The police characterized the death as “sudden” and said that an autopsy is in underway.
