Mercedes Benz Tipper Accident Claims Five Lives in Ogoja

Five people have lost their lives while 24 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a car crash that occurred in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The incident which involved a Mercedes Benz tipper carrying 31 passengers occurred at 12:41 pm on Saturday in Abakpa community.

Abdullahi Hassan, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Cross River State confirmed the tragic incident to NAN on Saturday in Calabar.

According to him, the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle after its tyre burst.

Hassan disclosed that 24 male adults were among the injured, while two passengers, a female adult, and a female child, were not hurt. He added that the five male adults who lost their lives were heading to a burial ceremony.

The FRSC Sector Commander expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, urging road users to always exercise caution while on the road to prevent avoidable accidents.
