Mayor of Ngwathe condemns the attack on his mother’s home

After her mother’s house was destroyed by irate people in Tumahole township, Parys, Free State, she moved to Johannesburg. Victoria de Beer-Mthombeni, the executive mayor of Ngwathe local municipality, is still traumatized by the destruction of her mother’s home by irate villagers in the township of Tumahole, Parys, Free State, on Monday.

While in college, De Beer-Mthombeni, 35, became an ANC activist.
In an interview with Sunday World, she described the suffering she, her siblings, and her mother faced as a result of the devastation of their house.

The demonstration in Tumahole, the hometown of former ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule, was purportedly sparked by a lack of water supply.

She described her agony and anguish and how the incident has traumatized the entire family in an interview with Sunday World.

“On Monday, demonstrators assaulted and burned my mother’s home. My brother was sleeping in the house when all of this occurred, but his neighbors woke him up. My mother and brother had to watch helplessly from a neighbor’s house while my mother’s house burned to the ground. Important paperwork such as identification cards were destroyed, she sobbed.

“I believe this incident was provoked by renegade forces opposed to the area’s development.

“The water problem has been since 2004. I grew up with similar obstacles. My mother is neither the mayor nor a council member, and she did not deserve this. If individuals felt the need to vent their concerns, they should not have taken them out on my mother, as I am the mayor. She is the mother of the mayor, and she is 63 years old.

Nothing will prevent me and my team from cleaning up the filth that has existed since I was a child.

Those responsible for torching my mother’s home should be aware that I will not be frightened. I live in this neighborhood with these frustrated individuals, but I will not be intimidated by anyone.

This anarchic behavior should not be permitted to fester. De Beer-Mthombeni stated, “I will do everything to protect my family from rogue elements attempting to destabilize the region.”

The property damage is estimated at R400,000.

She stated, “I will be meeting with community members from various wards to discuss a solution to the water crisis.”

Sergeant Sinah Mpakane, a police spokeswoman for the Free State, stated, “A case of arson has been opened, but no arrests have been made.”
