Matt Gurden designates Deputy Government Actuary


Matt Gurden has been designated the next Deputy Government Actuary. Actuarial Director for GAD was his most recent position. An open competition led to the appointment.

The next deputy government actuary has been designated as Matt Gurden, according to the Government Actuary’s Department (GAD).

An open hiring process for the position was followed by the appointment.

Martin Clarke, the government actuary, said that Matt Gurden has an exceptional background in actuarial consulting for both the public and commercial sectors across a wide variety of fields.

I congratulate him on his appointment and look forward to working closely with him to enhance the important contribution that actuaries make within the public sector as well as to provide professional and commercial leadership to the Government Actuary’s Department.

Control and direction

The GAD Actuarial Director for Clients, Growth, and Development was Matt’s most recent position. He is a manager and executive board member.

He oversees the Specialist Actuarial and Analytical Solutions Teams, two GAD teams under the Management Board’s jurisdiction. He serves as the Thought Leadership Oversight Group’s chair as well.

Insurance, investments, data science, modelling, quality assurance, pensions, and social security remain the areas of specialisation for GAD.
After serving in a number of capacities at several actuarial consultants in the private sector, Matt joined GAD in 2011.
