Marjorie Ngwenya becomes Prudential Regulation Committee external member

Marjorie Ngwenya has been appointed to the Prudential Regulation Committee as an external member.

Ms Ngwenya previously served on the Council of the UK Institute and Faculty Actuaries, where she was President.

She will follow Norval Bryson and will take office on September 5, 2022, for a three-year term.

Ms. Ngwenya will take over as an external member of the PRC on September 5, 2022, for a three-year term, replacing Norval Bryson.

Marjorie previously served on the council of the UK Institute and Faculty Actuaries, where she was President.

Marjorie’s experience in international financial services will provide essential insight and knowledge to the Prudential Regulation Committee, according to Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak.

I’d want to express my gratitude to Norval Bryson for his services to the Committee.

Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England, remarked, “I am happy to welcome Marjorie to the Prudential Regulation Committee.” She brings a plethora of insurance knowledge to the Committee and will contribute significantly to its work.

Her senior leadership experience, including as President of the IFoA, will be important as we work on Solvency II reforms and the future regulatory framework. In the coming years, I hope to collaborate with her.

Marjorie Ngwenya’s bio

Tangerine Life (Nigeria) and its holding firm Tangerine Financial have Marjorie as an independent non-executive director. She is the chair of the Canon Collins Trust in the United Kingdom, as well as a trustee of the Legal Resources Centre (South Africa).

Marjorie served on the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ (IFoA) governing council for eight years and is a past president.

She served as Chief Strategist on the Group Corporate Committee of Liberty Group in South Africa during her executive career. She was Chief Risk Officer for Old Mutual’s African Operations prior to that.

Marjorie works as an actuary and graduated from the London Business School with a Sloan MSc in Leadership and Strategy. She is also a diversity, equity, and inclusion advocate and executive coach.
