Manchester United could be on the verge of achieving greatness

Later in February at Wembley Stadium, Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag will lead the Red Devils in what will be his first cup final. He will be attempting to break the club’s longest trophy drought.

United advanced to the Carabao Cup final by strolling through Nottingham Forest in a two-legged match, defeating them 2-0 (5-0 on aggregate) at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, with goals from the returning Anthony Martial and Fred.

Ten Hag has brought in a group of experienced and world-class players, including five-time UEFA Champions League winner Casemiro, World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez, playmaker Christian Eriksen, and recently signed Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich, among others, since assuming the coaching position.

Since then, the former Ajax Amsterdam manager has quickly restored hope to the United faithful. However, the Red Devils will face a Newcastle team led by Eddie Howe that is also in a trophy-less season, having not won a trophy since 1969.

Howe and his team qualified for the championship game after defeating relegation-threatened Southampton 3-1 on aggregate. Since the Saudis took control the club in 2021 and delivered a massive financial injection, Newcastle have emerged as a surprise top-four candidate in the English Premier League.

Both the Newcastle United and Manchester United teams are aiming to qualify for the Champions League in the upcoming season. They are currently in third and fourth place on the standings with 39 points each.

The final of the Carabao Cup takes place on February 26. The match begins at 6.30pm (SA time).
