The City of Ekurhuleni is set to face a significant water disruption as Rand Water prepares to undertake critical maintenance from 26 to 29 May.
The maintenance work will result in a staggering 59-hour water shutdown in several areas.
The recovery process is expected to take approximately 3 to 5 days to restore normal water supply.
Crucial Maintenance Work by Rand Water
Rand Water, responsible for water supply in the region, will temporarily halt its distribution during the maintenance period.
The purpose of the upgrade is to integrate the new M9 pipeline into the existing system, necessitating a complete shutdown of water supply for nearly two and a half days.
Areas Affected by the Shutdown
Numerous areas in Ekurhuleni will be directly impacted by the water shutdown.
These areas include Duduza, Nigel, Springs, KwaThema, Brakpan, Springs X, New Era, Geduld and extensions, Krugersrus, Dal Fouce, Fulcrum, Reedville, Deep Levels, Mthembu village, and Thembelisha.

Additionally, the following areas will experience water disruptions: Highlands, President Dam, President’s Ranch, Welgedacht, Slovo Park, Selcourt and enclosure, Pollak Park, Wright Park, New State Area, New Payneville, Overline, Nyanyadu, Riverside, Selcourt Estate, Nuffield, Edelweiss, Casseldale, Strubenvale and extensions, Daggafontein, Struisbult, Selection Park, Masimini, Vergenoeg, Phelendaba, Scheme 486 (ext 2 & 5), Grootvally, Grootvlei, Bakerton, Persida, KwaThema, Tornado, Phomolong, Mini Selcourt, White City, and Highlands.
Preparation and Conservation Measures
Residents are advised by city spokesman Zweli Dlamini to store an adequate supply of water for essential use during the shutdown period.
Furthermore, the city appeals to industrial customers, including hospitals, clinics, retirement homes, and schools, to fill their internal storage tanks and use water sparingly until the system is fully operational again.
