Low water levels at Lake Mead are revealing long-hidden realities

The lowest water levels in nearly 80 years continue to unveil long-hidden truths at Lake Mead.

Clark County Coroner is assessing the fourth body recovered at Swim Beach in Nevada.

Nobody knows who the bones belong to or how they died.

A Spaniard said he’s convinced the second set of bones found this summer is his father’s.

Todd Kolod was 3 when his father Daniel, 22, drowned in 1958.

When he and a friend were on a speedboat and hit a wake, only one survived.

Never found:

Bones with missing teeth that matched Daniel’s denture were found at Callville Bay on May 7. DNA samples were taken.

Kolod believes it’s his father since the coroner claimed the individual was between 23 and 38 when they died.

‘I always anticipate each clue to send us further from our objective, but consistently each clue puts us closer, and this is a bullseye,’ he told 8 News Now.

Kolod wanted to recognize his father’s teeth.

Daniel lost his front teeth in a vehicle collision before drowning and wore dentures.

8 News Now sent photographs of the remains to Dr. Deborah Staten of Desert Hills Dental, who is qualified in identifying remains from dental records.

She claimed the skeleton is missing its front teeth, but she suspects more teeth were taken before death.

60 years have likely erased dental records.

Kolod is eager to offer a DNA sample to answer the mystery, but is upset by the delay.

‘I’m beginning to lose hope for a DNA sample,’ he added.

This latest discovery may shed light.

Four sets of remains are unidentified.

A corpse was recovered in a rusting barrel at Hemenway Harbor on May 1.

Police said the guy was shot and his clothes was from the mid-1970s to early 1980s.

Lt. Ray Spencer of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police murder unit stated in May, ‘The lake has emptied substantially.’

Lake Mead may contain more discarded corpses.

Todd Kolod thinks the second pair may be his father’s.

July 26 uncovered a third set of human remains. Since the 1930s, some 300 individuals have perished in Lake Mead, not counting Daniel Kolod.

As the lake level drops this summer, human remains, sunken vessels, including a WWII landing craft, and other objects have been found.

The discovery have sparked discussion about unresolved missing person and murder cases extending back decades to organized crime and early Las Vegas, a 30-minute drive from the lake.

Peer-reviewed research suggests the planet is warming due to increased carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

Scientists claim the U.S. West, particularly the Colorado River basin, is warmer and dryer.

Lake Mead and Lake Powell are the area’s major reservoirs, supplying water to 40 million people.

NASA reports Lake Mead’s lowest water level since 1937. Lake was 27% full on July 18, 2022.

Ann Willis of the Center for Watershed Science told the Washington Post in June that the current drought is the driest in 1,200 years. Extreme weather is reaching new lows.’
