Lost Gold Prospectors Found Safe and Well After Large-Scale Search

Two gold prospectors who had spent the night lost in a remote and rugged wilderness have been found safe and well after a large scale search launched by the police.

Cody Evans and Joshua Heel-Murray had contacted their family around 8.30pm on Thursday night to inform them that they had become lost in the Mengha area of Tasmania’s north-west while prospecting for gold.

The pair had been travelling in an older style Mitsubishi Pajero and had indicated that they were heading to the Spion Kop Road area when they lost their way.

The police launched a search for the missing men on Friday as the Westpac Rescue Helicopter scoured the area from the air.

Family members of the missing men were understandably worried and took to social media to ask for prayers and help in finding them.

Tasmania Police confirmed that the men were found safe and well on Friday afternoon after an emergency text message application alerted police to their location when they entered a service area.

Senior Sergeant Stewart Williams encouraged anyone entering Tasmania’s remote wilderness to have a registered EPIRB or PLB device which can pin-point your location or be familiar with using the Emergency Location Service application available on most mobile phones.
