Lionel Messi misses PSG’s match against Benfica

Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain will miss this week’s Champions League home match against Benfica due to injury, club sources told AFP on Monday.

The 35-year-old Argentine superstar suffered a minor calf injury in last week’s 1-1 draw in Portugal and was unable to play in Saturday’s Ligue 1 match against Reims.

In addition to Renato Sanches, PSG will be missing defenders Presnel Kimpembe and Nuno Mendes and midfielder Renato Sanches for Tuesday’s match in the French capital.

They are in first place in Group H, ahead of two-time European Cup champions Benfica based on goals scored in the group stage.

The ex-Barcelona forward has missed just one of PSG’s 14 games in all competitions this season, and they’ll be hoping he’s well for Sunday’s high-octane Ligue 1 match against arch rivals Marseille.

Sergio Ramos will undoubtedly miss Sunday’s game due to his suspension.
