Liberal Democrat candidate for the upcoming local elections in North Yorkshire, Nikita Primrose Sykes, made violent statements on Facebook before she joined the party.

The candidate for the Skelton West seat expressed her desire to “kill something” in a number of social media posts.

Sykes, who announced her candidacy last week, campaigned on transgender rights, equality, and accused the Conservative Party of “destroying the country”.

However, her previous Facebook posts showed violent tendencies from a decade ago.

Sykes also posted messages in support of cannabis use, stating that the drug helped her with her anger issues, helped her to write, and introduced her to great friends.

Local Conservative MP Simon Clarke expressed his horror over Sykes’ Facebook comments, particularly those referencing extreme violence.

He called for Sykes to be withdrawn as a candidate and expressed hope that she would receive the help she needs.

In announcing her candidacy, Sykes identified herself as a trans woman, an agnostic atheist, and a psychology student.

She used the name “Katy Primose Sykes” on her nomination form and appealed to voters to choose the “safe and fair vote that is the Liberal Democrats” amid Conservative destruction and Labour indecision.

A spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats said the party is looking into Sykes’ comments and will fully review any complaints using its independent complaints system.
