The Leicester Tigers have confirmed the signing of South African player Cameron Miell, who played for Paul Roos last season.

The Leicester Tigers announced the signing of 18-year-old Miell, who completed his Matriculation at Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch last year, on their official website. Two seasons ago, he was a member of the school’s first team.

Miell joins the Tigers Senior Academy as a versatile forward who is primarily a prop but has played across the pack at the high school level.

Miell commented on his decision to sign with the Leicester Tigers, saying, “I am ecstatic to be given this incredible opportunity with the Leicester Tigers and I cannot wait to test myself and learn in such a world-class environment.”

Cameron is a young man with a strong physical presence on the field and a great deal of athletic promise.

“In a very brief period of time, he has demonstrated a genuine work ethic and a desire to grow. We are looking forward to working with Cameron to develop his game with the Leicester Tigers.”Miell is now the fifth South African player on the Tigers’ payroll, joining Handre Pollard (flyhalf) and Jasper Wiese (no. 8) as well as Hanro Liebenberg (flanker) and Francois van der Westhuizen (wing) (prop).

Zimbabwean former Bulls lock Eli Snyman currently plays for the Tigers.

Additionally, schoolboys who tested positive for steroids during 2022 Craven Week were banned.
