On Monday, Lee Jung-jae made history by winning an Emmy Award.
The ‘Squid Game’ actor became the first South Korean actor, and the first actor of Asian descent, to win the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series thanks to his role in the Netflix series, which saw him defeat the likes of Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong (“Succession”), Jason Bateman, (“Ozark”), Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”), and Adam Scott (“Severance”) to earn the distinction.
Jung-jae, while taking the stage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles to claim the prize, stated, “Thank you so much.
“Thank you to Netflix and the filmmaker for bringing to life so wonderfully on screen, with a great storyline and stunning images, difficulties that we all experience in real life. Thank you. “Many thanks, ‘Squid Game’ staff.”
The 49-year-old celebrity concluded his address by thanking his Korean admirers.
He added: “Thank you to everyone in Korea who was watching. Thank you.”
Hwang Dong-hyuk also won the Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series award that evening.
The survival drama previously received four Creative Arts Emmys earlier this month, including Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Lee Yoo-mi.
