Lauren Mensch and Chris Russell will grab the reins from Eric Hall as the heads of the network

CNN has announced that Lauren Mensch and Chris Russell will be taking over as executive producers of “CNN This Morning,” replacing Eric Hall.

The move comes after Don Lemon, the show’s host, made a controversial comment about GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley and had an off-air altercation with co-anchor Kaitlan Collins.

The show has also been struggling with low ratings since its launch last November.

Mensch, who was most recently the executive producer of “CNN Newsroom” with Alisyn Camerota and Victor Blackwell, will be responsible for the show’s editorial direction and will lead the team in the control room during the 6-9 a.m. hours.

Russell, who previously worked with CNN CEO Chris Licht at CBS News, will lead production during the dayside and evening hours to prepare the show for the following morning.

Both producers will report to Ryan Kadro, senior vice president of content strategy.

Hall was reassigned from his position on “CNN This Morning” in January and moved to a new role at the 11 p.m. hour of “CNN Tonight” due to the show’s low ratings and Lemon’s controversies.

The show has been struggling to compete with other morning shows, such as Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” and MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

The new producers bring a wealth of experience to the show, and CNN is hoping that they will be able to turn things around.

It remains to be seen whether the changes will lead to a ratings boost for “CNN This Morning.”
