Mr. Oluwadamilare Ogundairo, General Manager, Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, has encouraged People Living with Disabilities to enrol in the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme in order to benefit from the State Government’s inexpensive healthcare initiative for all inhabitants of the state.
He made the call recently during a meeting with Madam Josephine Omolola, Head of the Albinism Cluster Group, at the Agency’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, to discuss health concerns encountered by persons with Albinism and methods to solve them.
Dairo stated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-administration Olu’s has continued to implement beneficial policies and programmes in the health sector to ensure that all residents, regardless of disability, status, or gender, have access to affordable healthcare services, emphasising the importance of all PWD cluster leaders educating their members on the benefits of the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme, dubbed Ilera-Eko.
“The Ilera-Eko scheme covers the treatment of eye care, family planning services, child welfare services, hospital admission, treatment, pharmaceutical, chronic disease, clinical chemistry, diagnostic investigations, dental care, cancer treatments in early stages (1-2), and child care among other” he said.
Later, the General Manager supplied Efudix Cream and Sunscreen Lotions for the treatment of skin diseases such as skin growths (keratoses and other simple skin malignancies) to members of the Albinism cluster.
Madam Omolola expressed her gratitude to the State Government for its continuous support and contribution, saying that the Efudix and Sunscreen Lotion will benefit members by assisting in the destruction of malignant and pre-cancerous cells on the skin.
She said, “Albinos are faced with myriad health problems due to their skin conditions. It has become so disheartening to see many wither away due to skin problems. However, the underlining issue revolves around religion and traditional beliefs, which prevent some sufferers from seeking medical intervention where and when needed”.
Dr. Tolu Ajomale, Head of Special Projects for the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Omolade Sonubi, Assistant Director of Admin and Human Resources for LASODA, and Mr. Akintunde Oguntoye, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation for LASODA, were among the government officials at the meeting.
