Korean Cultural Centre presents photography exhibition ‘Arirang Narsha’ at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 25th May, 2022 (WAM) — The Korean Cultural Centre of the United Arab Emirates organised a photography exhibition entitled ‘Arirang Narsha’ in collaboration with Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi. The free-entry exhibition will showcase the beauty of Korean traditional dance created by a unique interpretation of Korean artist Yang Jaemoon.

The opening reception was held on 25th May in Manarat Al Saadiyat and attended by a number of distinguished guests, including Lee Seok-gu, Korean Ambassador to the UAE; Amel Al Mheiri, Head of Visual Art and Design of Ministry of Culture and Youth; Fatima Yousef Al Yousef, Acting Manarat Al Saadiyat Section Head, Culture Sites Management Department at Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi); Manuel Rebate, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabip; Xhabir Hamiti, Ambassador of Kosovo to the UAE; Nguyen ManhTuan, Ambassador of Vietnam to the UAE; and Lody Embrechts, Ambassador of Netherland to the UAE.

About 22 pieces of photographs are exhibited, and Jaemoon works are inspired by Koran traditional dances, including Jinju Gyobang Gutgeori (four-beat structure with three subdivisions), Geommu (a sword dance), Cheoyongmu (Dance of Cheoyong) and a Nongak (Samulnori, five-person dance).

The collection of artworks introduces artist’s entire activities from the early stage of works to the latest. His works have been changing from photographs of solo dancers that showed softness and elegance to group dancers that showed strength and dynamism.

Yang Jaemoon said, “I was fascinated by the emotional lingering of the sweeping skirts of dancers and began to capture the fleeting sequences into photograph linearly. Therefore, my work captures the trailing imagery created by the movement of dancers, attempting abstraction of the continuity of evanescent moments.”

Nam Chanwoo, Director of the KCC, commented, “I hope the original form of Korean culture is delivered to the audiences in the UAE through the photographs showing the moments and movements of Korean traditional dancers. You will be able to feel that you are actually watching a beautiful Arirang performance through the exhibition.”

The public can view Arirang Narsha from 25th May to 19th June at Manarat Al Sadiyaat, and the exhibition will continue at the Korean Cultural Centre in Yas Creative Hub from 22nd June to 24th July.
