At least for the time being, the Mets’ enormous 12-year, $310 million contract with Carlos Correa is on hold owing to concerns about an ankle injury he sustained eight years ago in the minor leagues.
According to The Post’s Mike Puma, despite the fact that both parties are remaining silent on the status of the transaction, there is still optimism that the two teams will reach an agreement.
While Correa has not missed any time this season due to a right leg injury, there was cause for concern during at least one game.
Correa came up limping on September 20 against the Royals after sliding into second base. Correa attempted to steal, but immediately after making contact with the shin of Royals second baseman Michael Massey, he appeared in excruciating pain.
According to The Athletic, Correa stated after the game, “He just struck my plate.” “I was operated on, and he hit it. Just felt somewhat numb. Vibrating. So I simply waited for the situation to quiet down. It was a little frightening, but when I relocated, I knew it was for the best.”
This procedure occurred in 2014, when Correa was playing for the Astros’ High-A club Lancaster Jethawks. He was hurt while sliding into third base.
