Killer of an Umlazi ward councillor receives three life sentences

Yesterday, the guy who fatally murdered Sibusiso David Maphumulo, a ward councillor in the Umlazi region, outside his home in October 2018 was eventually punished. The reign of terror of Nkosingiphile Moses Gumede came to an end when he was given three life sentences for three different acts of murder.

Gumede was sentenced to three life terms and an additional 60 years in jail by the Durban High Court on Tuesday, following his conviction on three counts of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of a handgun, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, a spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority, stated that Maphumulo was sitting in his vehicle in front of his residence when Gumede and his associates approached him.

Gumede fired multiple shots that struck Maphumulo in the head, causing his death.

Lungelo Given Radebe and his aunt, Nondlela Rosetta Sithole, were in a mall in KwaMashu when Gumede and his associates ambushed them, took R22,000 from them, and then shot Radebe in the head.

“In May of 2019, Gumede shot Sanele Samuel Sanga as he was outside his home in the KwaDukuza neighborhood. Gumede was apprehended outside of Sundumbili Plaza following police surveillance, according to Ramsisson-Sara.
