Kevin Durant’s presence on the Phoenix Suns has led the team to three consecutive wins, making them strong contenders in the league. Unfortunately, the Suns will now have to maintain their momentum without Durant for at least three weeks.

During warmups for his home debut against the Thunder on Wednesday night, Durant rolled his ankle, forcing him to sit out the game. The team confirmed on Thursday night that Durant’s injury would be re-evaluated after three weeks.

While the Suns feared the injury could have kept Durant out for a more extended period, the update is somewhat of a relief for the organization. If he can return to the court, the Suns would have five regular-season games to get Durant ready for the playoffs.

Head coach Monty Williams is sympathetic to Durant’s frustration, given that he was recovering from a knee injury when he was traded by the Nets in an NBA trade deadline blockbuster.

After Phoenix Suns player Kevin Durant suffered an ankle injury during warmups on Wednesday, the team confirmed that he will be out for at least three weeks. This news came as a relief to the organization, who feared that the injury could have caused him to miss significant time, even the start of playoffs.

Despite Durant’s absence, the Suns have been on a three-game winning streak and have looked like real contenders. However, they will have to continue their streak without their star forward for the time being.

Suns coach Monty Williams expressed sympathy for Durant’s situation, saying, “He’s out there, working his tail off, getting ready for the game and twists his ankle. You can’t get frustrated about that. It’s life, you know what I’m saying? I felt bad for him because he feels bad. I saw his face and —  I’ve been around him so many times — I know what he’s feeling, and I don’t want him feeling that way at all.”

Durant’s previous MCL injury already caused him to be sidelined for 20 games with Brooklyn this season. However, the Suns didn’t seem to need their new superstar on Wednesday night, as they dominated the Oklahoma City Thunder in a 131-101 victory thanks to Devin Booker’s impressive 44 points.

The Suns currently hold the fourth seed in the Western Conference standings and continue to fight their way up the rankings, with a record of 37-29. If Durant can return before the playoffs, the Suns will have five regular seasons left to get him back into postseason shape.
