Johannesburg – After rejoining Orlando Pirates on a two-year deal from Mamelodi Sundowns, returning striker Kermit Erasmus exclaims, “It’s nice to be back.”
After a disappointing two-year spell with Sundowns, rumors began to circulate that Erasmus would be leaving the club during this transfer window.
He was connected with a return to Cape Town City, and Soweto giants Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs were rumored to be monitoring the striker.
The Sea Robbers announced ‘Romeo’s’ return to the club on a two-year contract in the early hours of Friday morning, after the PSL transfer deadline had passed.
Erasmus stated on the club’s official website, “It’s nice to be back,” while quoting the tweet announcing his arrival on Twitter and tweeting, “I am back!”
Erasmus joined the Pirates in 2013, where he won the Nedbank Cup and reached the Champions League and Confederation Cup finals in 2013 and 2015.

He left Pirates in 2016, joining Stade Rennais, before returning to South African football in 2019 with City, who then sold him to Sundowns, where he won four trophies.
Erasmus is expected to make an immediate impact, given that Pirates’ forwards have not been at their best in the opening games of the season.

On Friday morning, the club also announced the three-year signing of 25-year-old goalkeeper Sipho Chaine from Chippa United.
Erasmus and Chaine are the most recent players to join the club on the day of the transfer deadline, following the acquisition of Phillip Ndlondlo from Marumo Gallants.
These three players join other rookies Miguel Timm, Tapelo Xoki, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Evidence Makgopa, Azola Matrose (on loan), and Bienvenu Eva Nga.
