Kenyan nurse, 24, drowns while live-streaming from a pool

The terrible event was live streamed on Facebook by a Kenyan nurse working as a nurse in Canada while her father begs for cash to transport her corpse back to Kenya for burial.

On Thursday night, 24-year-old Hellen Wendy Nyabuto, who was a guest at the Key Motel in Chastworth, Ontario, was seen plunging into the deep end of a pool. Video of the incident posted on social media shows her plunging in from the shallow end and fighting to float above the water.

Just seconds before diving back into the water, the young lady, a Toronto-based health professional, had been replying to comments sent by her friends and followers on the live feed.

Due to her long, curly hair and colourful one-piece, two guys mistook her for a poodle and later that day found her dead at the bottom of the pool, according to the Kenyan daily The Star.

I won’t be entering that pool. One of the two males can be heard remarking on the Facebook live feed, “It looks like a genuine dead person. Before Ontario Provincial Police were informed of the occurrence, the residents phoned the front desk.

According to The Toronto Star, the woman was in Chatsworth because she was employed at Country Lane, a long-term care nursing facility.

Alfonce Nyamwaya, one of Helen’s close friends, emphasised that she was one of several health professionals who had been spending long hours in long-term care facilities throughout COVID, saying that she “worked with elders right up until the end.”

He said, “She truly had a heart for it.”

According to the Nyabuto family, Hellen was living with her younger brother in a Toronto apartment while also having a part-time job and attending nursing school.

‘She has been in Canada for around three years,’ claimed Enock, who hails from a family of six children, including his sister. Hellen had a 10-year visa that allowed her to continue her education in Canada.

Hellen also served as the family’s breadwinner after her father, Kyondi Nyabuto, helped him pay for her siblings’ schooling back in Kisii, Kenya.

According to Nyamawaya, “Hellen was the breadwinner back home for her family.” She has been helping them, and that has created a significant void.

In addition, Hellen hadn’t visited Kenya since she arrived in Canada in 2019.

She helped me out financially by paying school fees and other expenditures for her siblings’ education. I’ve reached a dead end and must start again. Kiyondi Nyabuto said CNN, “I’m concerned about how her younger siblings will complete their education.

The father of six stated that it is inaccurate what has been said on social media that Hellen plotted her own demise.

I’ve heard rumours that she said on WhatsApp that she will soon pass away in Canada. The Standard, Kenya’s leading daily, quoted Nyabuto as saying, “As her father, she never communicated with me any information that indicated she was in distress or any other kind of problem.”

He went on to say that he was first made aware of Wendy’s drowning by a text message he received from one of Hellen’s friends.

On Thursday night, his daughter was taken to the hospital in a hurry, and emergency personnel made repeated efforts to resuscitate her.

Informing Nyabuto of his daughter’s illness and the reason she was being sent to the hospital, Canadian officials withheld Nyabuto’s daughter’s identity.

Before the catastrophe, Hellen was often grinning while interacting with her friends and fans on her Facebook live feed.

She often submerged her head under the pool water and walked in and out of the water to check her phone, which was live broadcasting. She would also practise breathing for many seconds while submerged in water.

The Kenyan health worker jumped into the deep end of the pool after over 10 minutes of self-recording. A few seconds later, Hellen was gasping for oxygen, screaming out, kicking, and flailing her arms.

Approximately two minutes later, the pool water was calm and motionless, and there was silence all around.

While the footage on her phone had continued to film, she was discovered dead in the sea three hours later.

On Go Fund Me, Enock paid homage to his elder sister and praised her for being “full of life.” with an endearing heart and a genuine grin. Everyone who met Wendy felt happier thereafter. She was devoted to her career and won the hearts of many people.

The Nyabuto family set a target of $50,000 and as of Tuesday, they had collected $3,094 (Canadian dollars).

The money will be used to return Hellen’s corpse to Kenya, specifically to Nairobi.

The Toronto Star was informed that “measures” were being taken by the Ontario Provincial Police to remove the footage from social media.
