Kenya Railways has launched a night service between Nairobi and Kisumu

Following improvements to the Kisumu route, passengers will be able to travel at night starting this Friday.

The Kisumu Night train will now stop at Kikuyu, Naivasha, Nakuru, Njoro, Elburgon, Turi, Molo, Mau Summit, Londiani, Kedowa, Kipkelion, Tunnel, Fort Ternan, Koru, Muhoroni, Chemelil, Kibigori, Miwani, and Kibos before arriving at its final destination in Kisumu, in response to consumer requests.

The number of passengers using the service will likewise rise as a result of this.

The Kisumu Safari train, which was re-introduced in December 2021 after a long absence, has proven to be a hit, according to Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga, with many revelers and residents of the Lakeside region choosing the train as their favorite form of transportation.

“We listened to our customers and the broader public and made the decision to make the modification in order to satisfy their travel demands.” The train from Kisumu to Nairobi will now travel at night. We’re also adding more stops along the way to ensure that we can accommodate more people. We may revive the day train in the future, depending on demand.”

Every Friday, the train will depart Nairobi Central Station at 1830 hours and arrive in Kisumu at 0630 hours.

Every Sunday, the train will depart from the New Kisumu Station at 1830 hours and arrive in Nairobi at 0635 hours. Kenya Railways hopes to make the service more appealing for tourists between Nairobi City, across the Rift Valley, and eventually to the Lakeside region by charging Sh2,000 for a journey in first-class cabins and Sh600 for a ride in economy class vehicles.

The Corporation also intends to begin services in Butere later next month, which will increase the number of people who use the service.
