Sunday night’s booing of Chris Brown’s American Music Award victory was quelled by Kelly Rowland.
The former member of Destiny’s Child stated that Brown had won the award for Favorite Male R&B Artist, noting that the 33-year-old was not there to take the trophy, but that she would do it on his behalf.
Rowland, 41, responded, “Excuse me” in response to boos from the crowd. “Calm down.”
The “Dilemma” singer referred to Brown as a “great performer” before addressing him personally.
The actress ended, “Chris, thank you so much for producing beautiful R&B songs.” “I will take this prize and deliver it to you. I adore you. Congratulations to everyone nominated in this category.”
Kelly Rowland advised the American Music Awards crowd to “cool out” in response to Chris Brown’s victory.

Users of social media had conflicting reactions to Rowland’s support of Brown, who has been frequently accused of assaulting women.

Saturday, the dancer said he was scheduled to pay tribute to Michael Jackson at the 50th annual awards event.
The award for Favorite Male R&B Artist went to Brown.

“U SERIOUS?” Brown informed his Instagram fans over the weekend, posting what looked to be practice footage. “I would have performed at the ama, but they cancelled me for mysterious reasons.”
The producers of the concert have yet to comment on the performance’s apparent abrupt cancellation.
Since attacking Rihanna in 2009, the composer has found himself in a number of precarious situations, from being accused of punching a woman in 2021 — an inquiry that was ultimately abandoned owing to “insufficient evidence” — to being sued in 2020 for allegedly drugging and raping a woman.
Rowland accepted the award on behalf of Brown.

During the 2020 accusation, Brown posted on Instagram, “Whenever I’m releasing music or projects, ‘THEY’ attempt to pull genuine bulls–t.”
Brown was also in the news for reported altercations with his ex-girlfriend Karreuche Tran, who was a presenter on Sunday’s event.

The actress secured a five-year restraining order against her former partner.
