In a video from her hospital bed, Micucci detailed her successful surgery, emphasizing the early detection that led to her treatment. Expressing her surprise due to never having smoked, she assured her audience that the medical team successfully removed the disease.

Lung Cancer Statistics and Trends
A prevalent disease in the US, lung cancer claims over 127,000 lives annually. Recent reports by the American Cancer Society (ACS) highlight an emerging trend:
higher rates of lung cancer among young women compared to men. Despite significant reductions in smoking rates, women between 35 and 54 are now diagnosed with the disease more frequently than men in the same age bracket.
Gender Disparity and Smoking Statistics
Historically, men were more likely to develop lung cancer due to higher smoking rates and workplace exposures. However, with reduced cigarette use and stricter regulations, young and middle-aged women now face higher diagnosis rates.
The disparity in smoking cessation between genders contributes to this trend, indicating a slower decline in smoking rates among women.
Impact and Progress
While about 67,000 men succumb to lung cancer annually compared to nearly 60,000 women, overall lung cancer cases have seen a decline from approximately 65 to 42 per 100,000 individuals between 1992 and 2019.
Despite these improvements, the emerging trend among women emphasizes the importance of continued awareness, early detection, and cessation efforts.
