Kate de Rothschild-Agius, Dr Ashok Roy and Timothy Schroder have been reappointed as Trustees of the Wallace Collection

De Rothschild-Agius, Kate

Kate was appointed Head of Fundraising on the Board in January 2022 after serving two terms as a trustee for the Wallace Collection. She has been a trustee since 2018.

Outside of the Wallace, Kate serves on the board of Exbury Gardens, her family’s public garden (125,000 people visited it last year), and the PCC of St. Katharine’s, Exbury, her local church.

Kate actively enjoys the museum scene, visiting exhibitions and serving as a Patron for many of the London museums.

She previously served as the British Museum’s and Kew Gardens’ Chairman of the Patrons. She splits her time between Exbury and London.

Ashok Roy, Dr.

A leading expert in the analysis of the material history of works of art, especially Old Master paintings, is Dr. Ashok Roy, FSA. Since 1977, when he was appointed to the National Gallery’s Scientific Department and later promoted to Director, his career has been focused on museum science.

At the National Gallery, where he later served as director of collections, he retired in 2016. In order to communicate to a large audience the importance and interest of comprehending and preserving collections through material knowledge, he continues to be especially interested in developing interdisciplinary study of works of art with curators and conservators.

He has organised numerous exhibitions focused on these topics, as well as numerous publications and lectures, to achieve this goal.

He is passionate about encouraging the broadest possible range of free public access to the national collections and making sure that the findings of collection research are made available to visitors in both the real and virtual worlds.

He thinks that showing the tools and processes used to create works of art is a potent way to draw in new audiences, especially young visitors. He is also concerned about the significance of museums’ environmental sustainability as public institutions.

Stephen Schroder

Timothy Schroder is a speaker and historian who specialises on the background of silversmiths and goldsmiths.

Head of silver at Christie’s, Curator of Decorative Arts at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Consultant Curator at the V&A are some of the positions held in the past.

He is a trustee for the Wallace Collection, a former prime warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company, a participant in Westminster Abbey’s fabric commission, and a former chairman of the Prostate Cancer Research Center.

Code of Compensation and Governance

The Wallace Collection’s trustees are not paid.

These quick reappointments were appointed in conformity with the Cabinet Office’s Governance Code on Public Appointments and will serve third terms from January 7, 2023, until July 6, 2023.

The Commissioner for Public Appointments oversees the appointment procedure.

Any major political activity that an appointee has engaged in over the past five years must be disclosed in accordance with the Code.

This is outlined as including holding office, speaking in front of an audience, making a recordable donation, and running for office.

Timothy Schroder, Ashok Roy, and Kate de Rothschild-Agius have all said they have no current projects.
