Kansas City pastor apologizes to congregation

A Missouri pastor berated his ‘poor’ congregation for not buying him an expensive watch he requested a year ago while preaching on ‘taking care of God’s shepherd.’

Pastor Carlton Funderburke of Kansas City called his congregation ‘poor, destitute, broken, and dissatisfied’ after they hadn’t purchased him a $395 to $3,295 Movado watch.

The video, which was reposted to TikTok, shows an agitated Funderburke (pictured in a black suit with a microphone) telling his constituents he needed to 'talk to my cheap sons and daughters'

‘I’m not worth McDonald’s? He asked the Church at the Well congregation on August 7 whether he was worth their Red Lobster money. I’m not worth your St. John Knits; you can’t afford it.

I’m not worth your LV? I’m not Prada-worthy? I’m no Gucci?

Funderburke and his wife started the church. Their three children reside in Kansas City.

In the viral video, Funderburke said he wanted his members to know ‘what God is saying’ before growing irritated and adding, ‘Oh, you can purchase a Movado [watch] at Sam’s [Club], and you know I asked for one last year. I’m still waiting in August.

Funderburke has recently made an apologetic video, stating the tape doesn’t represent his heart or attitude for God’s people.

His actions were unexplained.

The preacher apologised while reading from a script.

My statements couldn’t be erased by context. I apologise to anybody harmed by my statements.

He apologised to his church for not showing’respect’ or ‘love’ and to other pastors who would be evaluated for his conduct.

‘Thank you for supporting me,’ he added. “For those who know me from this video, I sorry that your first impression of me is rage, hatred, and resentment.”

DailyMail.com asked Funderburke for comment but received the apologetic video.

Funderburke started his ministry at 17 and attended Drake University.
