This decision comes in the wake of the Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal’s ruling, which invalidated Yusuf’s election victory and declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, as the winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election.
Grounds of Appeal
Governor Yusuf, in his bid to challenge the tribunal’s decision, has filed a comprehensive 42-ground appeal before the Court of Appeal.
This move underscores his determination to contest the outcome of the election.
Wole Olanipekun Takes the Lead
A notable development in this legal battle is the prominent role of Wole Olanipekun (SAN), who previously led President Bola Tinubu’s legal team at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT). Olanipekun is now the counsel for Governor Yusuf, spearheading his legal defense.

Joining Wole Olanipekun on Governor Yusuf’s legal team are Bode Olanipekun (SAN), Ibrahim G. Waru, and Akintola Makinde.
