Kai Luk will spend longer in prison for making indecent images of children and voyeurism

After his case was sent to the Court of Appeal by the then-Solicitor General Alex Chalk QC MP, a Wigan man who generated indecent photos of children was given a longer prison sentence.

Kai Luk, 56, ran a restaurant that offered takeout. A camera was found by a worker in one of the restaurant’s restrooms, and the police were notified.

Police discovered 1,415 category C films of 6 victims on several electronic devices Luk owned during a check of the location.

At Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on April 29, 2022, Luk was found guilty of voyeurism and given a 12-month prison sentence.

The then-Solicitor General forwarded Luk’s sentence to the Court of Appeal because he didn’t think it adequately captured the gravity of his offence.

The first sentence for Luk was determined to be excessively mild by the Court of Appeal on July 15, and a new sentence of 2 years and 8 months in prison was given.

After the hearing, Edward Timpson CBE MP, who is currently the solicitor general, said:

Kai Luk acted in a horrible and exploitative manner.

I hope that the Court’s decision to sentence him to a longer prison term today sends a loud and clear message that sexual offences of this kind will never be accepted.
