Jetstar delays passengers for 14 hours in grounded plane at Alice Springs

Jetstar passengers were left in distress after being stuck on a diverted plane for 14 hours, with no food offered for half the time. The JQ30 flight from Bangkok to Melbourne was diverted to Alice Springs at 7.30 am due to a passenger’s medical emergency. After landing, an electrical fault was found, and the 320 passengers were stranded until a replacement plane arrived from Sydney.

Passengers were unable to disembark since Alice Springs has no international customs area, and food was not offered until seven hours after landing.

The mood on the plane was said to be unhappy, with some children suffering from panic attacks. Passengers were informed that they would have to wait until 6 pm Sunday to board the replacement plane. Sandwiches were eventually distributed, and passengers were given the option to disembark into a sealed space at the terminal.

Jetstar thanked the customers for their “patience and understanding,” and explained that they had been working with local authorities to provide food, drinks, and snacks.

The spokesperson blamed the delay in getting food distributed on the lack of catering offered by the small Alice Springs airport on a Sunday. Since Alice Springs airport is not equipped to take the luggage off the international plane, passengers’ bags will remain on the aircraft to be flown to Melbourne tomorrow when repairs are made.
