Jamie Lopez, star of WE TV’s Super Sized Salon, has passed away at the age of 37.
Lopez founded the plus-size beauty salon Babydoll Beauty Couture in addition to starring in the reality television series. Yesterday, the business’s Instagram account acknowledged her passing (Dec 20).
“On behalf of the Babydoll Beauty Couture team, we deeply sorrow to inform the passing of The Founder & Owner of Babydoll Beauty Couture, The Legendary Jamie Lopez,” the post’s caption read.
The message added, “On behalf of the Babydoll family, we beg that you give us time to grieve this tragic loss. Additional information and arrangements will be forthcoming. We have suffered a tremendous loss and would appreciate the time and space to mourn in peace. Please keep our family and team at Babydoll in your thoughts and prayers.”
The homage closed with an expression of gratitude to the production company, Matador Content, and WE TV.
Super Sized Salon followed Lopez as she served plus-size women at her beauty salon and discussed her personal experiences with discrimination in the beauty industry. There are over 80,000 beauty salons in America, but only Babydoll Beauty Couture in Las Vegas caters solely to the plus size community. After facing discrimination in the beauty profession for being plus-sized and criticism for breaking a chair at a traditional salon, owner Jamie Lopez built this unique location.
The series aired from its launch on July 29 through its season finale in September.
“We are heartbroken to learn about the unexpected death of Jamie Lopez. Jamie’s dedication to making Babydoll Beauty Couture a safe and welcoming place for all women will never be forgotten. During this difficult time, our thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends,” WE TV tweeted.
Lopez’s cause of death has not yet been made public, however TMZ claims she was hospitalized last weekend in Las Vegas for cardiac issues.
