The catamaran belonging to a Swiss businessman became aground after striking rocks 49 feet off the gorgeous Kolona Bay on the island of Kythnos, and it quickly sank to the bottom.
On Friday evening, after the vessel began to sink, the Coast Guard responded to mayday calls and rescued the five persons aboard.
The superyacht was designed by Aegean Yachts in 2006, and rescuers were able to restrict pollution by containing it with a floating sea wall.
The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the shipwreck.

A local boat owner informed the SWNS news agency, “They believe the captain had a depth issue and sank the vessel.”
In an effort to avoid being sunk, he sailed closer to shore in less than ten meters of water depth, and this is how the ship came to be in that location. No one was injured.
The coastguard was alerted quickly and dispatched aid during the night. The next morning, they erected a perimeter against pollution. It appears there were no diesel leaks or landscape damage.’
Now, the local authorities will conduct an initial inquiry.
The 007 was delivered in 2006 by the Aegean Yacht shipyard in Bodrum.
It features five cabins, including a master bedroom, and can accommodate ten individuals. Unknown is the owner.
