ISWAP Commander Dies from Snake Bite in Borno State Hideout, Lack of Treatment Leads to Tragic Outcome

Kiriku, a high-ranking commander of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP), met an unfortunate end in Borno State after suffering a venomous snake bite.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert specializing in the Lake Chad region, shared this information via his Twitter account.

Makama revealed that Kiriku sustained the bite while in one of ISWAP’s hideouts in Damboa Local Government Area (LGA) on Tuesday and tragically passed away on Friday.

The inability to obtain timely treatment for the snake bite wound contributed to Kiriku’s demise.

Role and Operations:

Kiriku, operating within the Jiddari axis of Chiralia in the Timbuktu triangle, played a significant role in leading multiple attacks and ambushes against troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno.

The Timbuktu triangle, known as a stronghold for Boko Haram and ISWAP, spans four LGAs in Borno, including Damboa, Jere, Kaga, Konduga, and Gujba LGA in Yobe state.

Attack on Sabon Layi Community:

In a distressing incident, bandits carried out an attack on Sabon Layi village in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The assault occurred around 12 pm on Thursday, with the bandits unleashing a barrage of gunfire in the community.

Anas Musa, a community leader, confirmed the attack and reported that three farmers lost their lives during the violent incident.

The victims were identified as Anas Sabonlayi, Abubakar Dankibiya, and Harisu Un-Guwar Lemu.

Kidnappings and Ongoing Investigation:

As the situation unfolded, several individuals were reportedly abducted by the bandits and taken into the nearby forest.

The exact number of kidnapped victims is still being ascertained by authorities.

Usman Kasai, the Chairman of Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU), corroborated the attack and expressed ongoing efforts to determine the precise number of individuals who remain in captivity.
