A driver whose pickup truck landed on its roof on the opposite side of the road in a wrecked collision claimed police he lost control after spilling coffee on himself.

At approximately 7.45 a.m., the guy flipped his white Ford Ranger pickup at the intersection of Seven Hills Road and Bingara Road in Baulkham Hills, northern Sydney.

The unidentified driver who luckily escaped with only minor injuries told investigators at the scene that he had a cup of coffee on his lap when the vehicle flipped.

Images of the overturned ute posted to the Facebook page of the Hills Police Area Command were welcomed with disbelief.

Could occur to any one of us. One reader added, “I’m pleased they’re alive and not another road statistic.”

Someone else wrote, “Thank God they’re okay.” No one should be executed for spilling coffee on their lap.

Thankfully, no further vehicles were involved in the dramatic early-morning collision.

A third responded, “It’s a timely reminder that even the smallest things can lead to an accident.”

Another individual joked, “I’ll add this to the list of reasons why I don’t drink coffee.”

It is a little-known road rule in Australia that eating or drinking behind the wheel can result in a fine if the driver is found to have lost control of the car.

In New South Wales, where the collision took place, the penalty is a fine of $469 and three demerit points.

However, no charges or fines have been issued as of yet
