Incredibly graphic photos show Notting Hill Carnival attendees standing in the street in full view of onlookers while brandishing enormous machetes.One shot shows many males standing back and watching as a young man appears to approach them while brandishing a sizable weapon.The photographer stated the “joyful atmosphere turned unexpectedly as an altercation broke out nearby, between two gangs with knives and a machete,” and that he was “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Separate video footage shows a group of young people sprinting down a west London street in black and balaclavas after a violent conclusion to the yearly festival also surfaced today. One of the group is seen wielding what appears to be a machete.
Eight people were stabbed on Monday in a matter of hours, including a 29-year-old man who was brought to the hospital in a “critical” state, according to the Metropolitan Police, who claim to have made 308 arrests between Sunday and Monday. More than 50 police officers were assaulted in all, including by being kicked, punched, spat on, bit, headbutted, and even raped.The Metropolitan Police Federation, which advocates for line-level officers, reports knowledge of 75 instances of officer assaults and calls the crimes “absolutely disgusting.” Tory mayoral candidate demands that the carnival be moved. Susan Hall, a candidate for mayor of London for the Conservative Party, demanded today that the carnival be moved and possibly conducted in a park since the police “don’t want to be there.”
