Grinch is apprehended by the NYPD for’stealing Christmas joy.’

On Christmas day, the NYPD’s top officer posted a photo of a person costumed as the Grinch in the back of a police car on Twitter.

According to a tweet from the office of Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell, the holiday-hating Dr. Seuss caricature was “arrested” to prevent him from “stealing Christmas pleasure.”

“Christmas is safe in New York City,” the message states. “Thanks to the NYPD, the Grinch will not take any Christmas cheer this year. We wish you a Merry Christmas!

Later, the NYPD released a video of Sewell, the city’s first female police commissioner, congratulating her officers on Christmas Eve while visiting precincts.

“While most people are on vacation during the holidays, your NYPD officers are working around the clock to keep New York City safe, so last night, @NYPDPC visited commands in all five boroughs to wish them a happy holiday and thank them for their service,” the NYPD stated.
