Governor of Benue State Dissolves 9th State House of Assembly, Sets Stage for New Leadership

The newly sworn-in Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, took the step of dissolving the 9th State House of Assembly in order to create space for a new leadership.

This development was carried out on Friday, following an official dissolution order read by the Clerk of the House, Bernard Nule.

The dissolution was enacted in accordance with the Benue State House of Assembly dissolution order, specifically Section 105, sub-section 3, of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

Achievements and Acknowledgments of the 9th Assembly

During the valedictory session organized by the members of the 9th Assembly, the former Speaker, Titus Uba, expressed gratitude to his colleagues and the Assembly as a whole.

Uba commended the House for its accomplishments, which included the processing of 60 bills, with 54 of them passing into law for assent, while six expired.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the Assembly addressed numerous state issues and citizen welfare through the consideration of 53 motions, resulting in 121 resolutions.

Additionally, the Assembly received and extensively debated 66 reports, leading to further resolutions.

Recognition of the Legislative Arm’s Productivity and Unity

In his remarks, the majority leader, Hon. Damian Cheme, praised the 9th Assembly for being the most productive and peaceful legislative arm in the country.

He expressed gratitude to the members for the privilege of serving in the House and recognized their dedication and hard work.

Call for Financial Autonomy and Unity

The Minority Leader, Hon. Bem Mngutyo, emphasized the importance of granting financial autonomy to the legislative arm of government.

This autonomy would enable the arm to function independently, without interference from the executive.

Mngutyo applauded the Speaker of the House for demonstrating exceptional leadership skills that fostered unity among the members.
