Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) says 350 207 Grade 1 and 8 online admission applications have been successfully processed

Since the application season opened on Friday, July 22, 350 207 Grade 1 and Grade 8 online admission applications have been processed successfully, according to the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE).

The department reported that as of Monday, its Online Admissions System had tallied a combined 151 949 applications for Grade 1 and 198 258 applications for Grade 8.

Now there have been 350 207 applications submitted altogether.

On July 22, the GDE call centre got 1,700 calls per hour on average about the online admissions for 2023.

“Today, 350 calls were answered each hour on average.

Additionally, the GDE WhatsApp line received roughly 3 200 messages on Friday, while today, there were about 7 200 inquiries.

“As a result, our team handled all of these inquiries effectively.

According to the GDE, more consumers are choosing to make their inquiries over WhatsApp, which appears to be changing the game.

The deadline for Grades 1 and 8 to submit an online application for 2023 admissions is August 19, 2022, at midnight.

Parents and guardians must register at www.gdeadmissions.gov.za in order to create personal login credentials for their application profile before they may submit an application.

The agency has advised all parents to either upload the relevant documentation to the online admissions system or provide certified copies of the material to the schools they applied to.

Application submission and system upload are not permitted at schools.

Panyaza Lesufi, the MEC for Gauteng Education, stated that the department is pleased with the progress made by its system in handling the enormous volume of applications.

“In actuality, the system’s improvements contributed significantly to its seamless operation.

If parents or guardians need help applying, they can contact us on our various sites, said Lesufi.

Applicants are encouraged to phone the department’s call centre at 0800 000 789 or use WhatsApp at 060 891 0361 for assistance with the application process.

Those who wish to apply but lack the necessary tools or internet connection are advised to visit their local district office or one of the department’s decentralised walk-in centres for assistance.
