Gas prices set another price high, averaging of $4.92 per gallon

On Tuesday, gasoline prices hit a new high of $4.92 a gallon for regular, just as many families prepare to leave for their summer vacations.

According to the AAA Gas Price Index, average gas prices have risen 30 cents in the last week and $1.87 from a year ago, and are on track to reach $5 per gallon by the end of this week.

California remains the most costly state for petrol by a large margin, with average pump prices of $6.37 per gallon in the Golden State.

Thirteen states, including Washington, DC, now charge more than $5 a gallon, with more expected to follow suit in the coming days if supply fails to meet up.

‘Despite the high costs, people are still fueling up,’ said AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross in a statement on Monday.

‘At some point, due to these high prices, drivers may change their daily driving habits or lifestyle, but we are not there yet,’ he added.

Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey, Indiana, Arizona, Michigan, Alaska, Illinois, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, Nevada, and California were among the states that had surpassed a $5 per gallon average on Tuesday.
