A trucker has been hailed as a hero when he went towards a blazing automobile on an interstate and pulled the 80-year-old driver to safety.
Last week, while travelling through Yatala on the Gold Coast’s M1, woodcutter Gary Jones observed a car on fire.
After stopping his vehicle, Mr. Jones commanded the old man to exit.
The 80-year-old man, however, was paralyzed by terror and unable to move.
Mr. Jones, who is also a volunteer firefighter, knew what to do and dragged the man out of the vehicle.

Mr. Jones (shown), a professional woodcutter, referred to himself as a ‘ordinary citizen’ as he went towards the blazing automobile to save the old man’s life.
Mr. Jones dismissed 9News’ assertions that he was a hero, stating that he was merely a “ordinary citizen.”
Mr. Jones stated, “When he was sitting in the automobile, there were flames on both sides of him, and the upholstery exploded.”
I unlocked the door, grabbed the driver, and pulled him out – he almost got ran over… an 80-year-old is definitely not agile.
While firefighters and police came to extinguish the fire and manage traffic, Mr. Jones fled the scene.
The driver of the vehicle that caught fire was unharmed and hospitalized for shock.
