A man who incurred substantial losses through gambling has taken legal action against two betting firms, Sportsbet and Beteasy, accusing them of encouraging his gambling habit and neglecting to inform him about his gambling problem.

Alexander Gassner has filed a lawsuit in the Federal Court, seeking to recover his losses and claiming that the companies engaged in “unconscionable conduct.”

Negligence in Addressing a Gambling Problem Alexander Gassner claims that despite his significant financial losses, which amounted to over $600,000 over a span of six years, the betting firms failed to reach out to him and offer assistance regarding his gambling problem.

In court documents, Gassner alleges that both Beteasy and Sportsbet neglected to inquire about his ability to sustain such substantial losses or his control over his gambling behavior.

Instead, he states that the companies actively promoted and encouraged his gambling activities.

Transitioning Between Betting Platforms Gassner reports that he switched from using the Beteasy app to the Sportsbet platform in September 2020, following advice given to him.

However, his gambling losses continued, leading him to exhaust all his savings and some of his business funds.

Eventually, in June 2021, he decided to suspend his Sportsbet account. According to his claims, he lost over $485,000 through Beteasy and an additional $121,000 through Sportsbet.

Legal Action and Mediation To recover his losses, Alexander Gassner has taken legal action against Sportsbet and Beteasy, seeking not only the amounts lost but also interest on those sums and coverage of his legal costs.

Conclusion:

The lawsuit brought by Alexander Gassner highlights the alleged failure of online bookmakers, Sportsbet and Beteasy, to address his gambling addiction and intervene despite his substantial financial losses.

The legal proceedings will determine the outcome of this case and potentially shed light on the responsibility of betting firms in monitoring and assisting customers with gambling problems.
