Fred White, drummer for Earth, Wind & Fire, died on Sunday. He was 67.

Verdine White, his brother and bandmate, made the announcement on Instagram but did not specify the cause of death.

“Dear Family, Friends, and Followers… Our family is heartbroken tonight by the passing of an extraordinary and brilliant family member, our dear brother Frederick Eugene “Freddie” White,” Verdine, 71, captioned images of White and the band throughout the years.

He has joined his brothers Maurice, Monte, and Ronald in paradise and is now playing the drums with the angels!

Verdine continued by describing Fred, one of the original nine band members, as a “child protégé… with gold records at the tender age of 16!”

In 2000, he and his band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
