France worries over Presnel Kimpembe’s Achilles “discomfort” three weeks before the World Cup

Presnel Kimpembe suffered an Achilles injury three weeks prior to France’s first World Cup match, his club Paris Saint-Germain said on Tuesday.

This season, Kimpembe (27) has already missed seven games due to a thigh injury.

The French will begin their championship defense on November 22 against Australia in Al Wakrah.

“After receiving a blow, Presnel Kimpembe is experiencing difficulty in his right Achilles tendon and will remain at the training center for treatment,” PSG stated in a statement.

Centre-back Kimpembe returned to action in Tuesday’s victory over Champions League. He will miss this week’s trip to Juventus, but the Parisians have not disclosed the duration of his absence.

Didier Deschamps will pick his France squad for the tournament in Qatar on November 9, and he is already without Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante due to injury.

Experienced central defender Raphael Varane will not play for Manchester United before the World Cup owing to a thigh injury, but he has not been ruled out of the competition.
