Joe Burrow sent a reassuring message to Patrick Mahomes on Sunday, following the Bengals’ loss to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
NFL Films footage shows that when the two quarterbacks met on the field at Arrowhead Stadium following Kansas City’s 23-20 victory, Burrow and Mahomes shook hands and Burrow said, “Go win it now.”
Mahomes, who will now make his third Super Bowl appearance, said, “Yes, sir.”
Many on social media applauded Burrow and Mahomes’ gracious discussion, which followed a week of sniping between Bengals and Chiefs players.
Burrow was asked about trash talk following the game.
“I believe that is what makes football enjoyable. In the end, it’s all about love. They are aware of our respect for them, and we are aware of their respect for us. According to the Bengals’ official website, Burrow stated, “It’s an intense, emotional game, and things like that are bound to happen, but I think that’s why the game is so enjoyable.”
Burrow and the Bengals won the AFC Championship game against the Chiefs in 2022 to get to the Super Bowl. After losing to the Los Angeles Rams 23-20, Cincinnati came short of a championship.
Mahomes stated that “the job is not done” until the Chiefs once again hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
“We must enjoy this for about a day before returning to work,” he stated. “I’ve been to the Super Bowl, and I can tell you that winning is much better than losing.”
In February 2020, Mahomes won his first Super Bowl as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers. Although Kansas City returned a year later, Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated them in February 2021.
The Chiefs and Eagles will meet off in Super Bowl 2023 in Arizona on Sunday, February 12.
