Four died in golf cart crash: “A horrible dream”

According to authorities, the four persons died in a golf cart incident in Texas over the weekend were a grandfather, two of his grandkids, and a niece who were visiting Galveston for a little vacation before school started.

The collision occurred on Saturday when a motorist suspected of being inebriated jumped a stop sign and collided with a pickup vehicle, which then collided with a golf cart carrying six passengers. Felipe Bentancur, 49, his niece Destiny Uvalle, 25, and two granddaughters, Kaisyn Bentancur, 4, and Brailyn Cantu, 14, were identified as the four slain by police on Monday.

According to authorities, all four were from Rosenberg, a Texas town approximately 30 miles southwest of Houston.

Authorities say two other people on the golf cart were badly hurt.

Miguel Espinoza, 45, the SUV’s driver, has been charged with four counts of intoxication manslaughter. He remained in prison on $400,000 bail on Tuesday, and it was unclear if he had a counsel who could speak on his behalf.

According to CBS station KHOU, four candles were placed on a front porch in the victims’ neighborhood near Rosenberg.

According to relatives, the family went on a brief trip to the island before the kids returned to school. They were both Lamar Consolidated ISD students, and family members told KHOU that Brailyn was looking forward to his first year of high school.

“Like a horrible dream, a very awful dream,” Sylvia Martinez, a family friend, told the station.

“It will take time to heal, and you can’t describe what other people are experiencing unless you’ve been there,” said Minnie Villalobox, a relative.

Golf carts are a popular mode of transportation on the island resort area, which is located on the Gulf of Mexico. According to police, the golf cart was functioning lawfully at the time of the crash.
